DNA analysis for identification purposes, both in paternity testing and in criminal settings, is a delicate process that involves technical activity in the laboratory, but it also calls for interpretation: in simple cases interpretation of the laboratory data is fairly straightforward while complex cases require much more precision and experience.

For over 25 years, our Forensic Genetics Laboratory has been studying issues related to establishing paternity, DNA analysis on biological traces in both the legal and private sectors and the Head of the Laboratory has been teaching and performing scientific research for many years.

Head of the Forensic Genetics Laboratory is Prof. Andrea Piccinini, MD, PhD, Specialised in Forensic Medicine, Associate Professor in Legal Medicine.
